Month: August 2017

22nd – 28th August 2017 “Education is the key to opportunities”

Mo Fefe Hake? Fefe Hake Ho Ngaue? Fefe Hake Famili Mailangi? Malo emaili mai ka au!! Thank you for taking the time out each week to email? Fefe ho lau tohi a molamona? Fefe ho lotu fakafamili? Fefe Ho Family Home Evening?

This week was a good week, we were able to find a lot of investigators this week with just contacting and also through the ward referrals that we received last week!! we increased our lessons this week from last week so everything is good but doesnt mean we have to stop working, we found that no matter how hard we have worked one day we have to continue to work hard and be persistence something i lack in sometimes but im trying repenting and trying again!! We have been working really close with our ward mission leader (so hard working!!) and just really blessed we have a ward bishop and mission leader who are really concerned about the work!

DSC09787Everything has been good for me and my hoa we planned to run every day but some how the “alarm keeps turning off” haha!! We made keke vai and we made it 2 days straight now for our dinner and it was so ifo with the strwberry jam aunty packed in the package and milo ouaaaa!! As companionship were good, she told me in companionship inventory that she cant believe im tongan knows how to speak tagalog and cant speak my native tongue, i was like or yep fakamolemole toks but she said you really need to learn how to speak tongan and i am here to help you so were trying in that, its hard i wont lie and i get frustrated to but i just have to trust in the gift of tongues!! we’re just really helping each other out in areas we both can improve on!!

this week i was studying over the book of mormon i am up to helaman and this is the part where nephi and lehi the sons of helaman go and teach to the wicked nephites. its just crazy how just like those times of old, everything is happening exactly like that now, how the nephities turn wicked because they set there hearts upon riches, that once, people see the blessings come they are slow to remember god and how he pulled them out of there trials and tribulations and that is why i try to declare the importance to you all and also to every one i meet to keep on keeping at the small things everyday, (scripture study, prayer, family home evening) patience and persistence is the key to avoid tendency or be complacent!!

Peeling corn

DSC09741Something else that i studied last night in preparation for next weeks RS class was Gordon B Hinkcley’s lesson on Education if there is one quote i loved was “there can be no doubt, none whatever, that education pays. do not short circuit your lives.if you do so, you will pay for it over and over again…. it is not enough just to live, just to survive” EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO OPPORTUNITY!! i never really knew how important education was till i came on the mission (sorry hahaha) but man after reading and ponering on the words of President Gordon B Hinckley, it helped me grow a testimony on education. BISHOP AND MUM STUDY!!! no matter how much you pay for it now, it is not to late get into a course of byu, it doesnt matter if we eat bread to pay for schooling because its those things that matter most that will last forever, lets not just live to survive lets gain as much as we can while “preparing to meet god” lets seek in good books and not just schooling!! Start a course now Bishop and mum!!!

DSC09743i am good, always room for improvement for me but im working and trusting his plan for me!! I received a text this week and this is not to scare you both but just to let you know we had a warning text to prepare our 72 hour kits as there may not be electricity for a few days and be home by 7pm because there is a typhoon coming and not to sure when it will hit but everything is okay i have my 72 hour kit, my book of mormon and my body guard haha so its good really!!! I love you you both so much and thank you so much for working hard for this family, even if i get punted day by day i know i am blessed always because of you both!!

My first transfer 15th Aug – 21st Aug 2017

Hello mum and dad fefe hake? thank you for emailing me this week and taking the time out to email each week, i really do appreciate it!! Thank you for the updates on each of you and also on the family, seems like everyone is doing good! How is family prayer, scripture reading and family home evening?

Well I have transferred to my new area and it is Ilagan right in the city (the home of the corn here in the Philippines) and my new companion is Sister Mafi

DSC09670 yep my lotu was answered and she is tongan from tonga ouaaa she is from Popua!!! So on my way here i was pretty scared because i was travelling by myself to a place i never even knew and the only direction i was given was “get off at jollibee the only one in Ilagan” so with that i went onto the bus and its like a drive from Campbelltown to Frenches Forest so for me it was a 2 and half hour drive, anyways i was like man i hope i get off at the right stop (also this bus has no stops you just get off wherever and they pick up people wherever just like tonga lol) so anyways half way there this guy got on the bus and out of all seats he just has to sit next to me and in my mind i was like hoi the seats are small, theres so much space in this bus and you just have to sit here, so during the bus ride he recieved a phone call and he told them he was getting off at Jollibee Ilagan!! So i was like man what a blessing from Heavenly Father, out of all places to sit he sits next to me to allow me to get off at the right place so yep that was one of the many miracles that happened to me this week!!

So i met my new companion Sister Mafi, so we both found out monday night while i was still in Tuguegarao and guess what the first text i recieved from her it was in tongan hahaha so my companion Sister Perez was like i dont think this is tagalog and when i looked at it i couldnt stop laughing, but man she is heaps mad our first dinner we had kumala!! The ward here is so good, like bishop here is so hard working actually all the members here are so helpful in the work of the lord!! We had a one day mission with our ward and we all went out looking for people to teach and so many members came out and showed there support and even the old ones came and helped out cooking so it was so good to see (bishop mailangi i suggest it for the ward and the missionaries) we were able to find 35 people as a ward in 3 hours so it was good!!

DSC09703 For lunch on sunday i made chopsiuey the first time actually haha it was approved from Sister Mafi so im guessing its good, we didnt have any vegetables forgot to buy it the day before but it was alright also it was so much and guess what we finished it haha!!

IMG_3240But we went to the Sports Complex here for a run because i havent ran in 2 weeks and was missing it and she wants to fakaholo so she reckons shes going to get up every morning haha

DSC09705but we will see, the area here is good it is the city so pretty hard but hey thats missionary work!! I think the only down thing about having a tongan companion is the mentality they have just because im tongan they can get away with little things, but everytime i am tempted i just read over the email from dad about being truthfully honest and whenever there is something that is not right i just tell her and we went over it in companionship inventory, but shes good and a really hard worker too!!

Yeah i have been studying the book of mormon to go over it and really come to understand it and i really do love it!! i source that is a big help is the book of mormon manual read a chapter then read the manual another source is the holy ghost, i really can tell the difference of when i was at home reading and here on the mission like at home i was reading just read but its different when you read to understand!! I just finished Alma today such a good read!!

how is everyone in the family?

i am good, we are the only two in our house so it makes it heaps easy to clean and cook because were both easy and just eat anything, the first two days Sister Mafi bought 2 ice cream bowls and finished it in like 3 days hahaha hut guy but the work is good and my tagalog is getting there but still has a lot of improvement!! Missing home hearing Sister Mafi speak and pray in tongan but im good!! She has been teaching me tongan too which is tika haha

DSC09704but thats all from me this week always know that you are all in my prayers, everyday and theres never i day i dont think of you all!!! thank you for your hard work everyday for this family, remember to keep up family prayer, family scripture reading and family home evening everyday please and please feed the missionaries once a week espeically because dads the bishop even if it is noodles they are grateful!!!

“Just give till the Master stops giving to you” 8th Aug – 14th Aug 2017

DSC09605Hi My Beautiful Parents,

Mo fefe hake? how is everyone at home? how is family prayer? how is family scripture reading? how is family home evening? (i just noticed every follow up starts with family ends with the tool he has given us to work our salvation crazy anyways) How is work? how is the ward?

This weeks work was really good, we were able to have some really good lessons with either our investigators or less actives and really help each of them draw closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and really come to help those who dont know, come to know the truthfulness of this gospel! One lesson was one for the books so you know that guy that came to church a few weeks ago and we hadn’t taught him he just came anyways we set a appointment with him one hour before church started because he cant meet with us during the week because he is busy with work and he wanted to us to meet him at his work but its not in our area so we decided church would be good, anyways filipino time so he came at 8:30 so we started and man his questions were just out of the world questions e.g. Do you believe in Jesus Christ the spirit or God head the Spirit? When Heavenly Father absorbs Jesus Christ will this church be latter day saints lang? like really some out of the world questions and he probably had 15 memorized bible scriptures that he quoted to us which was something different but it was a good lesson he has a desire to learn and is willing to listen he had a lot of questions and it wasnt really concern for him it was more testimony and he kept saying our church “because i really want to join this church” so it was good to talk with a child of god and help him come to know the truthfulness of our message and even though it took along time that we even missed our own sacrament because he kept wanting to questions answered everytime we wanted to close but it was a good experience and one i wont forget!!! So we went to take sacrament with the next ward and then went to work, got caught in the rain again with our fellow shipper which was just another normal day!!

Blackout in the Philippines (scared much)DSCN2771

But yes this week i shared the talk that mum gave to me to read ‘the greatest among you’ to one of our family home evening’s (Sadural Family we eat there every sunday) it felt really good and nanay even shared that, it was something she needed that day so thank you!!! But i came across this quote ‘in a little missionaries book of inspirational stories’ and it says “Go spread to the Needy, sweet charity’s bread, For giving is living” the angel said “O must i be giving again and again?” My peevish and willful answer ran. “Oh no” said the angel, and her eyes pierced me through…… “Just give till the master stops giving to you”. man when i read this quote i was like man i am getting things everyday and sometimes blessings i cant even comprahend and sometimes i even count how many times i give to some people how selfish of me to think, if theres one thing i have learnt right now is to give until the master stops giving to me and i really want to take that attitude with me for the rest of my life and i have learnt that of both of you thank you for giving to everyone no matter who thank you for giving so much to this family time effort and love it never goes unnoticed thank you for serving the lord that we can learn from you both!!! Thank you for being examples of giving to me!!!

I am okay and i am feeling pretty sad that you guys had nightmares about me, trust me when i say if anything were to happen it will happen in the work of the lord so i will be okay i am fine trust me!! well this morning i found out i am Transferring to my 2nd area on wednesday so man pretty excited, scared and sad to leave my first area, i thought it was hard to say bye to my family but i wont lie it is hard saying bye to investigators, less active and active members that i have met here because i ont know when the next time i am going to see them!! but i guess thats missionary work!!

Listen to understand NOT listen to speak 1st Aug – 7th Aug 2017

Hello my beautiful parents!! Thank you for emailing me and taking out the time to email me in your busy schedule but i am glad to hear everything is doing well at home and everything is adjusting a little better. How is everyone? how is work for those that work? how is school? how is the ward? (man I miss Eastlakes ward so much!!) how is both my nana and papa’s? how is scripture reading? how is family prayer? how is family home evening? BUT HOW ARE YOU MUM AND BISHOP?

Well the work this week was good we were able to find some people and i have been a little more comfortable in contacting which is good still a lot of improvement but its getting there just gotta keep, keeping at it. We finally have a progressing investigator who is coming to church which is hectic, so we are just really putting her into focus, we found out on Sunday that we have another one who actually is someone we visit every Tuesday for family home evening. We didn’t know whether she was a convert or ward baptism her parents aren’t members but her grandparents are. She has been coming with them since she was young to church so my trainer told me she falls under the ward nek minit bishop asked us if she was scheduled for this Saturday for baptism but now she cant because she hasn’t been taught any lessons. Thats some thing that happened this week but I see this area is progressing, little by little which is good!! In terms of my language could be a little better! I still sit in some lessons and just nod my head then look at my companion haha My companion is hectic, she is so helpful and just been really trying to help me teach true doctrine and be obedient which I love. She really tries to help me reach my goals as a missionary and its hectic too because we get the same kinda of jokes and everything so if someone does something hut we just look at each other and smile eg. One of our room mates loves to tease but hates when people tease her so yep I’ve been giving it to her haha As for myself I am good I cant believe it has been a good 5-6 months here on the mission already how crazy is that, it has gone so fast for me. Sometimes I really just sit back and just think look at how short the time is he has asked me to serve!!! well this week is the last week for this cycle and yep I jumped the gun this past testimony meeting and said thanks to everyone and there love because I feel like I’m getting transferred next cycle which is crazy to think but that’s just me assuming. I could be wrong either way I don’t mind, its all in his timing!! This week I had the worst stomach bug everrrrr on Saturday I think I don’t know what I ate we were at a members after CSP and yep stomach bug that whole day I didn’t end up eating for 36 hours but im okay now up and eating again haha!!

This weeks studies have been good I have really learnt a lot about the Preach My Gospel and book of mormon because thats what our Mission President wants us to focus on, but something that i did learn with an experience i had was how important listening is!! You both are probably like yes finally haha because I already know I wasn’t the best listener at home!! but yesterday we were asked to join a meeting with our stake president, bishop and one of the stake counsellors, and man what an experience that was some of the tings said in there should of not been said with the presence of missionaries there and it was just crazy all because one person was listening. I remember in the PMG Jefferey.R.Holland said “more important then speaking is listening” everything yesterday could have been a lot smother if one person just listened, and after i got out of that meeting (which i came out wanting to taii someone) i was asking myself why did the lord put me in that meeting, and looking at it now he wanted me to learn what happens when you just dont listen, as in really listen to understand!! And that is one thing i have been trying to do as a missionary especially just really look at someone and listen to what they are sharing because it could be from what they share, that we could help them resolve there concern. At home thats something i sucked at, i was listening to speak and not listening to understand and being here i able to see how big of a difference it could be just to listen with love!! And i really add my testimony to what Elder Jefferey.R.Holland said, it is really more important to listen then to speak, lets listen to whoever maybe be speaking, we could be there ear for the day, no matter who it may be (nana and her 1000 stories, papa and hes repeated stories) at the end of the day they would probably be so thankful that someone listened!! Lets never forget to the man who listens to our hearts, who listens to our prayers, who listens to our concerns and who listens to comfort, who is our loving Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ!!!

But that is all from me this week went so fast!! I went for a run this week since MTC i died but felt hectic!! My interviews with President and Sister Hiatt was so good and so blessed to have them as my mission parents!! I am A ok of course i am on the lords errand you both need not worry about me every day is a good day in the service of the lord, if i get hungry, if i get lost i am doing so in the service of the lord!!! i love you both so much and appreciate both your counsel and love for me each week and each day, even though we ay be a few miles away i feel your love for me each day, thank you for making me push harder and thank you both for your hard work for this family i love you so much!!!!!
